Delta PAWS
(Pets Are Worth Saving)
Helping animals in need... one paw at a time
Delta PAWS (formerly Delta Rabbit rescue) was established in 2006 originally to help unwanted or abandoned rabbits and aid in the control of the feral cat population, in and around the city of Tracy, thru a bi—monthly trap and release program. Over the following months it became clear that other pets would benefit from Delta PAWS assistance in finding safe and happy homes.
Since we are strictly a non-profit organization we depend on contributions from the public. We are here to help the abused, abandoned, stray, and feral animals which may otherwise face euthanasia or become a danger to themselves or the residents of our town.
Community:
We take in animals from local shelters to assist with the overcrowding and help reduce the euthanasia rate. We also assist local veterinary offices with animals that come to their attention that we can assist with. In addition to our feral cat trap and release program, we rehabilitate feral kittens in an attempt to finds permanent homes and support those released with food donated by the public.
Future goals:
One of our goals for the future is to implement a therapy animal program in conjunction with our parent organization, The Kiona Foundation, to visit cancer patients and terminally ill individuals in local facilities. In addition we hope to create a food pantry of sorts for the pets of the elderly and those who have encountered unexpected hardships thru unforeseen illness or injury.
Where do we keep our animals?
Presently we do not have a facility to house the animals we take in (except for the time we are in Petsmart), so we rely on volunteers who open up their homes and hearts to be foster parents, until a permanent home can be found. As a foster parent, volunteers receive all supplies required for the care of their foster animal. We only ask for some of their time, space, and affection for these displaced animals.
